There’s an African Proverb that states “If many little people in many little places do many little deeds, they can change the face of the Earth.” In her book, The Story of a Soul, Saint Therese calls this philosophy “The Little Way”. In it, she says, “rather than aspiring to doing great deeds, do many small deeds with great love.” When not concerned with personal greatness, we find solace and humility in our littleness. Like small children, we start to focus our attention on small details; details that keep us focused “in the moment”. Without any distractions, we are entirely present – not only to ourselves, but to others too. This allows us to act with great love, and over time, allows us to make a real difference in the lives of others.
With the new year comes resolutions. I only have one: to make a real difference in the lives of others by doing many little deeds over time. One way of making a real difference is by creating a meeting place where like-minded individuals can share inspirational messages with the goal of making each of our lives a bit brighter.
